Quiet Horizon — A Moment Between Childhood and the World | Maitreya Mantra

This photograph was taken several years ago in Ethiopia. A young girl sits quietly on the ground, leaning against a large sack beside her. Her gaze drifts somewhere between the world around her and a place deep within herself.

There is no sadness in her eyes, but also no easy laughter. Instead there is something else: a quiet dignity, a moment at the threshold between childhood and the wider world.

When I later looked at this photograph again, I began to ask myself which sound might belong to this moment. The gentle chant of the Maitreya Mantra seemed to carry the same quiet presence.

Together with the slow movement of light on water, the image becomes an invitation to look a little longer — beyond the quick glance that photographs usually receive.

In that stillness, something simple appears: a quiet horizon, where a life begins to look forward.
